Delta CP seeks traditional institutions’ support in tackling crime

The Commissioner of Police, Delta Command, Mr Yemi Oyeniyi has urged the traditional institutions in the state to continue to partner with the command to stem criminalities.

The spokesman for the command, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Warri.

Edafe said that the commissioner made the call on Thursday during a courtesy visit on the Ovie of Ozoro, Anthony Ogbogbo, Ibuka I, in Isoko North Local Government Area of the state.

He said that the visit was part of the ongoing commissioner’s familiarization tour of Area Commands in the state.

Edafe added that the visit was in furtherance of the Inspector-General of Police, Tunde Disu’s vision of deepening grassroots policing through stronger collaboration with traditional institutions and local communities.

He said that the commissioner emphasized the critical role of traditional rulers in tackling the growing threats of kidnapping, cultism and drug-related crimes, particularly in rural communities.

He stated that the commissioner appreciated the Ozoro Community for sustained support to the Police in tackling criminal elements in the state.

“Effective policing and sustainable economic development are inextricably linked.

“I, therefore, appealed for continuous support through community partnership,” Edafe quoted the commissioner as saying.

He said that the CP assured the traditional of the command’s unwavering commitment to intelligence-led, professional and lawful policing.

Responding, the royal father reaffirmed the palace’s confidence in the Police and pledged the domain’s continued support and cooperation.

“We will continue to support the Police in their efforts at protecting lives, property and sustainable peace within my domain,” he said.

Edafe said that the commissioner of police, thereafter held an engagement meeting with the community stakeholders and officers of the Ozoro Area Command.

He said that the CP reiterated that security was a collective responsibility which required active public participation, urging residents to always volunteer credible and timely information to the Police.

Edafe said that the police boss urged the officers to always uphold discipline, professionalism and respect for human rights.

According to him, the commissioner caution officers on the abuse of social media, and other things that could bring disrepute to the Police.

He said that the CP directed the officers to intensify intelligence-led operations against kidnapping, cultism, drug-related crimes and other criminal activities in the state.
