Mr Ado Yahuza, Executive Secretary of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), has called on youths in Nigeria to be more patriotic for the country’s development.
He made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja.
Yahuza urged youths to believe in and support the current administration to succeed.
The secretary, who decried the spate of youth migration, added that the government has taken measures to address challenges confronting the youths in the country.
He advised the youths to restore faith in the government and address any issue that they may have, through appropriate channels and processes.
“Our youths should sit down and think very well, Nigeria is a great country, Nigeria is endowed, there is nowhere like Nigeria.
“So I advise that even if you don’t like what is happening in this country, try to put it in such a way that you can convince those in authority to change their ways,’’ he said.
Yahuza reiterated that rather than fleeing the country to an unknown fate abroad, the youths should seek knowledge and improve themselves so as to be better leaders of the country when their time comes.
“There’s no way you’ll become a secessionist or an ethicist or you become a regional chauvinist and think you can prosper.
“You need to understand that this country is for all of us and all the cultures we have are good for us and they all preach peace.
“So I think the youths should be able to have faith in this country because this country is endowed in terms of resources,’’ he said.
He gave examples of how much resources God had deposited in Nigeria by making reference to the varieties in our women, food and cultures Nigeria.
NAN reports that NICO was established by Act 93 of 1993, as a joint initiative of the Nigerian Government and UNESCO as the country’s Cultural Training Institute.
It is aimed at contributing to world progress and civilisation through research and documentation and cultural assets and services. (NAN)
