Kwara government has appealed to residents to turnout on Saturday and participate in the monthly environmental sanitation exercise.

The monthly state-wide environmental sanitation exercise will hold between 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., on April 25

In a statement issued on Thursday in Ilorin, the state Ministry of Environment advised residents to keep their homes, offices and businesses premises clean to prevent the spread of disease in the state.

The statement issued by Mrs Shakirat Muritala, the ministry’s Press Secretary, quoted the Commissioner, Hajia Nafisat Buge, as appealing to residents to clean their homes, business premises and drainages during the period.

“It is important to ensure environmental cleanliness and hygiene at all times, especially now that diseases of public health are rising.

“Diseases that arise are as a result of poorly kept environments and are being recorded in some states of the federation,” Buge said.

The commissioner charged residents to prioritize their wellbeing, by cleaning up their surroundings to avoid epidemics.

She said that provisions had been made for waste collection trucks to evacuate refuse generated during the exercise in the metropolis.

Buge also said that there would be no human and vehicular movement during the exercise except for those on essential services, warning that anyone violating the restriction order would be prosecuted.

“Environmental Health Officers (Wole-wole), taskforce team, and security agents would be on ground, to ensure compliance with sanitation laws and guidelines.

“Anyone caught flouting the government’s order would be taken to the nearest mobile courts for prosecution, with relevant fines and penalty to serve as deterrent,” the commissioner said. (NAN)
