Kano State Government has said that it will continue to join hands with the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to ensure that workers comply with ethical standards in governance at local government and state levels.
Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje made the disclosure on Thursday in Kano at a programme organised by the CCB to enlighten the elected Chairmen and Councilors in the state on the activities of the bureau.
Ganduje pledged his administration’s commitment towards ensuring that ethical standards in governance are observed from the grassroot level upward.
“Each and every organization has its ethical standards, in governance, we have the code of conduct saddled with the responsibility of ensuring that workers comply with the laid-down rules and procedures,” he said.
He revealed that because the government was serious about being ethical, the administration introduced drug test for elected officials and political appointees.
“We mandated drug tests for all our elected officials before their elections. So also for all our political appointees.
“All our Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries and others were tested before we appointed them.
“We did the same thing on people running for party elective positions,” he said.
He pointed out that some people do not care to abide by the code of conduct for different reasons.
“Some do not abide because of ignorance, some because of fear and some because they think it is not necessary.
“But I assure you that, after today’s event, these and similar obstacles will be thrown away,” he said.
In his remarks, the CCB State Director, Prof. Muhammad Isa, commended the governor for assisting in creating awareness for the chairmen and their councilors, saying it showed how committed the governor is in the fight against corruption. (NAN)
