Sen. Nora Dadu’ut (APC/Plateau South) has empowered 200 youths and women in her senatorial district with agricultural skills, equipment and cash to enable them to become self reliant.
Dadu’ut at the launching of the empowerment programme in Shendam on Thursday said that the beneficiaries were trained on skills and knowledge of growing yams, guinea corn, groundnuts and other crops widely cultivated in the area.
The lawmaker who was represented by her legislative aide, Mrs. Rufina Gurumyen, said that the gesture would boost food production and economic sustainability in Plateau South.
She said that farming was a strategic and economic approach toward ensuring food security.
She said that the training was also to ensure youths and women of the senatorial district were self-employed through productive skills.
“I believe in sustainable empowerment rather than consumables empowerment, and that informs the reason why I am empowering and organizing this training for my constituents.
“Food as we know, is the most important basic human need apart from clothing and shelter.
“This is the reason why food production is being encouraged by the Federal Government and by the Gov. Simon Lalong administration.
“It is in line with the governor’s yearning for improved food production and his zeal to make Plateau a fulfilled land of green revolution,” she said.
Dadu’ut stated that she was pleased to see one of her dreams being realized.
She pointed out that at the end of the three day training, the beneficiaries would not go away empty handed.
According to her, the participants will be presented with Knapsack sprayers and other agricultural kits as well as capital to enable them to start their farming activities.
Mr. Livinus Longpuan, one of the beneficiaries, promised to make the best use of the knowledge, agricultural implements and the cash.
Longpuan thanked Dadu’ut for the gesture. (NAN)
