The Chairman, Enugu State Football Association (ENSFA), Mr. Tony Ugwu, on Thursday said he would adhere to the association’s laid down football programmes for various age levels.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu, Ugwu said the association would do all within its power to take football to a new height in the state.
“Our intention is to adhere to and meet up with our laid down programmes as regards our competitions at the various age levels.
”More so, we will create a synergy with other organizations and enthusiasts for the development of football in the state.
”Most importantly, we will align with the programmes of the NFF to move the game forward,” he said.
Ugwu said the Chidi Ofo-Okenwa Under-13 Tournament of which the first edition was hosted by the association in 2021 had come to stay, and added that it would be an annual event.
The chairman also said that Veterans League would take place this year and the association’s inability to host it in 2020 was due to circumstances beyond its control.
“We hope to approach sponsors to help out in veterans league and other age group competitions.
“This year is going to be packed with football activities for all age grades, starting from the under-13 competition to the under-18 and others,” the chairman said.
Ugwu urged football coaches to ensure that the annual league for all age groups in the state took place when due.
He recalled that the coaches association in collaboration with the FA always staged the under-13, under-15 and under-18 leagues, and called on them to start planning earlier.
“We do not want to leave any competition behind and all this has to be in consideration with national competitions which are paramount,” Ugwu added.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that veterans league was last hosted in 2020 before the former FA Chairman, Chidi Ofo-Okenwa’s death. (NAN)
