Ekiti Assembly applauds Gov. Oyebanji for prioritizing workers’ welfare
The Ekiti Assembly has applauded Gov. Biodun Oyebanji for his giant strides in the implementation of good policies and the execution of a transformation agenda that cares for the yearnings of pensioners, senior citizens, and public servants across the state.
Chairman, House Committee on Public Service Matters, Establishments, and Human Capital Development, and the Minority Leader of the House, Mr. Oladele Ogunsakin, said this during a two-day oversight activity of the Committee on Ministries, Departments, Agencies, and Commissions in the State.
The two-day working visits allowed the Chairman and members of the Committee to interface with the bureaucrats in the Civil Service Commission, Local Government Service Commission, Office of the Head of Service, House of Assembly Service Commission, Ministry of Capacity Development and Reforms, and Ministry of Wealth Creation & Employment, among others, all in Ado Ekiti.
Ogunsakin said various intervention programmes and policies of the administration of Gov. Oyebanji had impacted positively on the lives of the people in the state, particularly the public servants and pensioners.
“We are not oblivious to the trend in the experience of self-worth and achievements of the workforce in the state with regards to service matters, adding that the various initiative programmes put in place by the government have gone a long way in cushioning the effects of the economic hardship occasioned by the fuel subsidy removal.
At the Office of the Head of Service, Ogunsakin spoke extensively on the reasons for delegating oversight functions to the Office of the Head of Service and other regulatory agencies in the state.
Meanwhile, the lawmaker representing Ekiti East Constituency 1 and the Minority Leader of the Assembly, at various establishments visited by the Committee, emphasized the position of Sections 128 and 129 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as altered) regarding the conduct of legislative oversight and the procurement of evidence.
He reiterated that the committee would continue to engage the stakeholders at regular intervals and noted that the present government will not leave the peculiarities of the service to the commissions alone, urging the public servants in the state to reciprocate the good gestures of the governor.
In his comments, the Head of Service of Ekiti, Engineer Sunday Komolafe, briefed the Committee on the various efforts of the government to reposition the public service towards enhancing improved and efficient service delivery.
Komolafe said the public servants in the state have been given high consideration in the scheme of things, as he listed the achievements of the administration to include regular payment of salaries and pensions, increased fund for payment of gratuities and pensions, wage award, provision of palliatives, approval in principle of outstanding promotion in 2022/2023, digitalization of data, and records keeping in the civil service, among others.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that in all the offices visited by the Committee, vital issues relating to the welfare of workers were high on the agenda of discussions as the agencies used the occasion to commend the Seventh Assembly for maintaining good relationships with other arms of government.
The Chairman, House of Assembly Service Commission, Mr. Kayode Fasakin, thanked the Assembly for their support for the commission.
Similarly, his counterparts in the Local Government Service Commission and the Civil Service Commission, Mr. Samuel Abejide and Mr. Olubunmi Famosaya, all commended the Assembly for supporting the government so far. (NAN)
