Bauchi, Feb. 13, 2026 (NAN) Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project has begun the training of 600 women farmers in regenerative and climate-smart agriculture in Bauchi State.
The exercise is being implemented in collaboration with a group, Al‑Muhibbah Foundation, to strengthen households food security and environmental resilience in the state.
Regenerative agriculture is a holistic farming system that Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) by restoring soil health, enhancing biodiversity, and sequestering carbon to mitigate climate change.
The Project Coordinator, Dr Kabir Ibrahim said this at the inauguration of the exercise on Friday in Bauchi.
He said that 600 women would benefit under the first phase of the exercise, adding the programme targeted about 6,000 beneficiaries in the state.
Ibrahim said the beneficiaries would received hands-on training, startup inputs, small grants and post-training monitoring, to ensure immediate implementation and sustainability.
He said women empowerment in climate-resilient agriculture would not only improve household wellbeing rather stimulate local economies through surplus food production and sales.
The coordinator said ACReSAL project prioritised women and children, who are most vulnerable to the effects of climate change.
“Strengthening adaptive capacity at community level remains essential towards achieving sustainable development and long-term environmental stability in the state,” he said.
Also, Ladi Ibrahim, Executive Director of the foundation, described the project as a major step to restore degraded lands, improve nutrition and promote women economic independence through sustainable farming practices.
“Such as organic vegetable production, seedling development, composting, water conservation and preparation of organic fertiliser and pesticides,’ she said
She said beneficiaries would be exposed to modern techniques to enable them to set up backyard gardens, generate income and transfer knowledge to other women in their respective communities. (NAN)
