Lagos, Sept. 30, 2025 (NAN) A rights activist, Mr Declan Hekare, has expressed dissatisfaction at evidence about the claim by Winhomes Global Services Ltd. that Nigerians in the Diaspora invested $250 million dollars in its estate – Winhomes Estate – in Lagos State.
Hekare expressed the dissatisfaction during an inspection of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project on Monday.
He accompanied the Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, and a PDP chieftain, Mr Segun Showunmi, among others, for the inspection.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN reports that Winhomes had claimed that Nigerians invested the sum in the estate allegedly affected by the realignment of the coastal highway.
Hekare said: “Most of you know me very well as an activist that has a very good record.
“We wrote, we organised protests here, in Lagos, and Abuja to the effect that people in diaspora are being shut out, recognising the fact that they need to invest in this country.
“When we went to Abuja for protests, the honourable minister, in his wisdom, decided to oblige us and listen to us.
“We went on to tell him that it would be wise we come and see what is on ground,” he said.
Hekare said he was stepping into the land for the first time.
“I want to say clearly that what I am seeing here is below my expectation in the sense that I expected to see structures that were erected on the land. Probably some were pulled down.
“If properties were destroyed, I want to see the pictorials of how, when, where and the documents to prove that you actually erected ABC and that ABC is owned by Mr A, Mr B, Mr C.
‘‘Also, there should be approvals to that effect. If by the end of two weeks, I don’t see more evidence that will lay claim to what she (the chief executive officer of the company) said earlier, I will address a world press conference indicating that we will not tolerate this.”
He said that his position was that the investors, the government and the general public should be fairly treated.
“That is why we made out time to be here today to see clearly what is on ground.
“We are not negotiating for anybody. because we know that the way the matter is going right now, there is no negotiation.”
According to him, the land is already being revoked and gazetted by Lagos State Government.
“Neither civil society organisation nor the Federal Government is qualified to negotiate.,” he said.(NAN)
