A cross section of Ado Ekiti residents have commended the activities of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) team of the Police Command in Ekiti following the various breakthroughs recorded in recent times.
The residents in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday, in Ado-Ekiti commended the swift responses of the squad in fighting crimes in the state.
NAN reports that RRS under the leadership of Mr. Marcus Ogundola was scored pass mark due to the recent arrest of some notorious kidnappers and suspected cultists terrorizing the state.
Speaking, Mr. Femi Awolumate of New Iyin road described the activities of the squad as highly commendable while Mr. Adekunle Adetukasi of Adebayo area said such good development gave the hope of a better society.
Another resident, Mr. Segun Adegbola of Moferere area of Ado-Ekiti, also commended the state police squad saying, “they now make us to have rest of mind; before we are always scared of going out at nights especially when we travel and returning late.
He said that residents of Ado Ekiti and the state in general could now have a sigh of relief from the activities of criminals and hoodlums terrorizing the state.
A resident, who preferred anonymity, said the operations of the unit brought to limelight, the good work of police in the state.
“I don’t really know much about their operations, but I remember vividly that we made a distress call recently to them and within a shortest time they came and rescued the situation in a professional manner.”
Another resident, Madam Yemisi Ayedun of Igirigiri area of Ado Ekiti, said the excessiveness of criminals in the city had been curtailed by the police men.
Ayedun said that the citizens could now go about their businesses in the state without fear.
“Except we want to deceive ourselves, the level of crime in Ekiti is minimal compared to other states and all these did not just come if not for these gallant officers,’’ Ayedun said
Speaking, Mrs. Toyin Aladino, who also commended the police for the good works, advised them to be more civil in handling issues that have to do with civilians.
She submitted that some uncivil attitude of RRS may spoil the good work of the squad, this she said included going out of their usual schedule to stopping innocent people, asking and searching their phones to get incriminating messages or anything on it.
The Inspector General of Police through the Area Commanders has educated the civilians that the Police had no business with their phones, even asking them to dismantle road blocks.
Also, a journalist, Mr. Dare Daniels, said that the Police, especially those on special duties supposed to go on further training, particularly in dealing with the public.
“We have some of them that are very good, but most of them need to undergo more training, especially in how best to deal with the public or else, a day will come that there will be reactions from those that are feeling terrorized or intimidated,” he said.
The people called on government to continue to equip the team and other police units with modern technological facilities that would enhance the services and fight against crimes.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Abutu, in a telephone interview, commended the people of the state for giving timely, correct and adequate information to the police, which made their works easier.
“We cannot be everywhere at all times, we rely of information by the residents, which makes us to respond immediately we get such information.
“Though it is not all the information that is correct, but it is better than taking laws into their hands, whereby they act against the law,” the PPRO said.
Abutu appealed for more cooperation and assured them of the readiness of the Police Commissioner, Mr. Tunde Mobayo, to rid the state of criminals.
“The commissioner and the entire command have zero tolerance to crime and criminals and had on assumption warned criminals to steer clear of the state or be ready to face the wrath of the law,” he said.(NAN)
