Alleged defilement: Court orders remand of artisan pending legal advice

An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, ordered the remand of a 30-year-old man, Mutaru Ojo, at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre, over alleged defilement of a minor.

The Chief Magistrate, Omolara Kushanu declined to take the defendant’s plea for lack of jurisdiction, and directed that he be kept in custody until May 21, pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The defendant, a rewire who resides at Mojoda Toll Gate in Epe, is being charged with defilement of a minor

The prosecutor, ASP Adegoke Ademigbuji, alleged that  he committed the offence on March 27, at Mojoda Elepe in Epe.

Ademigbuji alleged that the defendant defiled the 10-year-old daughter of a food vendor.

He explained that the victim’s mother had sent her home to change her school uniform but later found her near a bush close to their house, stained with blood.

The prosecutor said that the girl reportedly named the defendant as perpetrator of the crime.

He said the matter was consequently, reported to the police, leading to the defendant’s arrest.

The offence contravenes the provisions of section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. (NAN)
