Stuttgart, Feb. 10, 2026 (dpa/NAN) German police on Tuesday reported that a train attendant was again attacked on Sunday, less than a week after a Deutsche Bahn employee died following a passenger assault.
The incident occurred on a train travelling from Stuttgart to Crailsheim, where a 42-year-old female attendant confronted a 21-year-old passenger for traveling without a valid ticket.
According to federal police in Stuttgart, the man later returned, spat on her leg, and attempted to strike her stomach with a bottle before fleeing the train.
Authorities have opened an investigation for attempted grievous bodily harm and are asking witnesses to come forward.
The attack came shortly after a fatal assault on a 36-year-old male Deutsche Bahn employee—the first death of its kind in the company’s history.
The attendant was beaten by a 26-year-old passenger on a regional train leaving Landstuhl station, southwest of Frankfurt, after asking him to leave for travelling without a ticket.
The suspect, a Greek national residing in Luxembourg, had no criminal record in Germany and reportedly did not use a weapon.
Passengers provided first aid and contacted authorities.
The injured attendant was resuscitated at the scene and transported to hospital, but he died from his injuries on Wednesday morning.
These incidents have raised concerns about the safety of train staff in Germany and the growing risks faced during routine ticket inspections. (dpa/NAN)
