Board trains 7,000 teachers on new methodologies in Katsina — Chairman
The Katsina State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) said it has trained over 7, 000 primary school teachers on different teaching methodologies to improve teaching and learning.
Its Chairman, Dr Kabir Magaji, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Katsina, while highlighting some of the achievements recorded by the board in the past one year.
He said that the teachers were drawn from the 2, 947 public primary schools across the 34 Local Education Authorities in the state.
Magaji said that the state government had introduced a policy of constructing houses for teachers in rural areas to encourage them to stay and teach students.
According to him, such accommodations were given free of charge to all those who wanted to stay there and teach, in addition to some allowances, all to serve as motivation to them.
The chairman said that the state government had recently recruited over 7, 000 teachers, out of which, 5, 095 were now serving under the board.
He further explained that the board encouraged teachers to go for in-service training to enhance their capacity for effective service delivery.
On schools’ infrastructure, Magaji said that the government was constructing 70 blocks of classrooms, the majority of which have been completed.
That, he said, was part of measures to decongest classrooms for effective teaching and learning.
He added that another set of 68 blocks of classrooms have been renovated and put into use.
Magaji added that the state government constructed a number of boreholes, toilets and provided desks and chairs to both teachers and students in those public schools.
He, therefore, urged parents to intensify efforts in sending their children to schools.
“Education is the bedrock of development in any society.
“I am appealing to parents to continue to send their children to schools.
“Ensure that the pupils stay in schools up to completion period and transit to the next level of education,” he appealed. (NAN)
