Epe (Lagos State), Dec. 26, 2024 (NAN) Ms. Surah Animashahun, Chairman, Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State has urged youths to tap into their innate talents for self-reliance.
Animashahun made the call while speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in commemoration of the Boxing Day celebration on Thursday.
She emphasized the importance of young people exploring their creative abilities to carve a path toward sustainable livelihoods.
“The boxers we are celebrating today tapped into their talent to make a living.
“The creative industry is huge, wide, and enormous. Therefore, youths should identify their talent and tap into it for self-sustainability, ” she said.
Animashahun noted that there were abundant opportunities within the creative and sports industries that youths could explore to become self-reliant.
According to her, talents such as acting, music, fashion, and even boxing have transformed individuals into global icons, contributing significantly to the economy.
She urged parents, guardians, and schools to play pivotal roles in helping children discover their skills early in life.
“Our schools and parents need to nurture and support the creative potential of the younger generation, as this will help them secure a brighter future and contribute to national development, ” she said.
The local government chairman said there was a need for government and private sector collaboration to provide platforms for young talents to thrive.
She encouraged the establishment of skills acquisition centers, mentorship programs, and talent shows to promote innovation and creativity.
Animashahun explained that self-reliance among youths would significantly reduce unemployment and curb social vices.
“When young people are engaged and self-dependent, it limits the chances of them being involved in criminal activities or other unproductive ventures, ” she said.
The Boxing Day celebration, according to her, symbolizes giving, and one of the greatest gifts youths can give themselves is the gift of self-discovery and purpose.
“Harnessing your talent is like unwrapping a box filled with endless opportunities,” she said.
Animashahun urged the youths in Epe and across Lagos State to take the Boxing Day celebration as a reminder to reflect on their strengths, unlock their potential, and strive toward becoming productive members of society. (NAN).
