A 45-year-old businessman, Ikuejuyone Adelaja, was on Thursday arraigned before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, for allegedly stealing 600 bags of wheat offal feeds, valued at N10,200,000.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Akeem Akinloye, accused the defendant and others at large of conspiring to commit the offence of stealing.
Akinloye alleged that the defendant stole the feeds, property of Alhaji Kamoru Ajayi of Moniya, Ibadan, and fraudulently converted the proceeds to his own use.
He said the offences contravened the provisions of Section 383 and were punishable under Sections 390 (9) and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.
The defendant, a resident of Tolu Olodi-Apapa, Lagos, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of alleged conspiracy and stealing levelled against him.
Consequently, the defence counsel, Mr Mumini Jimoh, prayed the court for his client’s bail on liberal terms.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olabisi Ogunkanmi, granted the bail application, admitting the defendant to bail in the sum of N10 million with two sureties in like sum.
Ogunkanmi said that one of the sureties must be the defendant’s sibling.
She, thereafter, adjourned the matter until July 7 for hearing. (NAN)
