Caleb University, Imota, in Lagos, has urged newly admitted students to remain sensitive about their relationship with God if they must push boundaries and overcome life challenges.

Prof. Nosa Owens-Ibie, Vice Chancellor of the institution, advised while administering the oath of allegiance to the 1,644 freshmen for the 2023–2024 academic session at the matriculation ceremony on Wednesday in Lagos.

According to him, if the students should make God their priority, then they are set to break boundaries and be at the peak of whatever they intend to be.

He noted that the institution, on its own, was working tirelessly to enhance academic excellence by providing an enabling environment for teaching and learning.

This, according to him, will further lay a strong foundation and bring out the best in the students.

The vice chancellor said that only recently, the National Universities Commission (NUC) approved about six new programmes for the institution, following the expansion of the level of infrastructure on the ground.

“Currently, among the 1,644 new intakes for this new academic session are the first batch of our newly accredited programme, which is Nursing Science.

“We are glad that this is happening, and I want to state that we are ready to hit the ground running.

“This programme, alongside others, was approved on Nov. 2, 2023. Normally, nursing science is a five-year program, and we are ready to go with our state-of-the-art facilities on hand for that.

“When those who have been around the country came to see what we have in place for the programme, they listed us as being among the top three in the country in terms of facilities, and that tells you something.

“They said it is only about one or two universities in the country that could boast of having more than we possess at the moment, in terms of facilities, for the programme.

“So, this is our first set of students in nursing, and subsequent ones will get nothing short of global best practices in nursing science,” he assured.

The vice chancellor said that students of the institution were generally being equipped for the local and international markets in various fields of human endeavor.

According to him, the university is expanding in infrastructure, in the quality of manpower or human resources, and as far as the curriculum is concerned, noting that it will not go for second best.

“We are networking and partnering with major institutions locally and internationally, as well as with regulatory agencies.

“We also have some cutting-edge agreements, and all our programmes are fully accredited. Speaking of new programmes, the NUC, alongside the Nursing Science, also approved Anatomy, Human Physiology, and Software Engineering.

“We also have others at the postgraduate level. Our architecture program, which is among the already existing ones, is top-notch. Out of about 50 professors in architecture in Nigeria, five are at Caleb University,” he stated.

The vice chancellor noted that the Edward Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University in the U.S. was in collaboration with the institution’s Department of Mass Communication on a project.

He restated the institution’s commitment to exporting capacity and competencies outside the shores of the country.

“Why we are special as a university is simply because God is with us. I, therefore, charge you all to always seek him in every step you take, and I can assure you that when you do this, you will never make any choice that you will regret later.

“God has opened a door for you by your admission into this university. God does not make mistakes. The reason you are seated here is because God has ordained it. It has a purpose.

“By this, you must therefore stay away from all vices that are capable of compromising your future, here at the university and even outside,” he said. (NAN)
