Kaduna State University (KASU) is partnering with NADAMA Film Production to produce a play on cancer.
The Department of Nigerian Languages and Linguistics of the university would work with the company to produce a play to enhance awareness of cervical cancer in society.
The play would be anchored on a book titled “Nadama,” written in Hausa by Hajiya Fatima Sanda.
The book seeks to create awareness about cervical cancer prevention, management, and control.
The Vice-Chancellor (VC), Abdullahi Musa, stated this at the signing of the agreement on Saturday in Kaduna.
He said the university would ensure that the theme of the book and associated messages are disseminated to a wider audience via film.
Represented by Prof. Ibrahim Malumfashi, the VC described the film project as a corporate social responsibility to engage the community through sensitization and enlightenment.
“We sat down with the stakeholders of the NADAMA project and agreed that we were going to raise about N38 million to produce a film that can be vouched for worldwide.
“In the next six to nine months, we expect to produce a film that will be watched all over the world through all multimedia platforms,” he said.
Also speaking, Sanda said the book targeted Hausa language speakers, while the partnership would facilitate its transformation into a film.
She said that most of the target audience were rural women who couldn’t read or write, adding that the film would help them understand issues around cervical cancer.
According to Sanda, most women in northern Nigeria are not exposed to the dangers and prevention tips for cervical cancer.
“The central message of the film is to create awareness for young girls and women to go for screening and receive a cancer vaccine.
“KASU came in basically to support this project because they see it as something students should know about and also to educate our women on cervical cancer and its dangers,” she said. (NAN)
