Abuja, Feb. 26, 2026 (NAN) The police on Thursday, charged a 40-year-old Carpenter, Umar Musa, before a Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abuja, for allegedly stealing N50,000 belonging to his girlfriend.
.The defendant is standing trial on charges bordering on stealing.
He however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that a complainant, one Ms Juliet Tor of Ruga Wuye area of Abuja, reported the matter at the Wuye Police Station on Jan. 18.
Nwachukwu alleged that the defendant had visited the complainant’s house, but while leaving in the morning ,he dishonesty made a away with her N50, 000 without her consent, adding that he absconded to an unknown destination.
She alleged that the defendant was eventually apprehended and handed over to the police.
The prosecutor said that during interrogation, the defendant made a confessional statement but could not give a satisfactory account of his actions.
The offence contravenes the provisions of sections 287 of the Penal Code.
The Chief Magistrate, Musa Jobbo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with a surety in like sum.
Jobbo ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must provide a reliable means of identification.
He further ordered that the address of the surety must be verified.
The court adjourned the case until March 26, for hearing.(NAN)
