Lagos, March 2, 2026 (NAN)The Centre for Peace, Transparency and Accountability (CPTA) has expressed pride in the transparency and achievements recorded by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps under Commandant General(CG), Dr Abubakar Audi’s leadership.
The Executive Director of CPTA, Mr Patrick Ogheneyero, in a statement issued on Monday, congratulated President Bola Tinubu on the reappointment of Audi as CG of the NSCDC for another five-year term.
Ogheneyero said Tinubu’s decision reflected his firm commitment to continuity, institutional consolidation, and the strengthening of Nigeria’s security architecture in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“CPTA views this reappointment as a clear endorsement of the performance, competence, and visionary leadership demonstrated by Audi during his first five-year tenure.
“Under his stewardship from 2021 to 2026, the NSCDC recorded remarkable operational milestones that significantly enhanced the protection of critical national assets and helped combat economic sabotage.
“Within this period, the Corps arrested 4,677 suspected economic saboteurs, initiated 2,039 prosecutions, and secured 638 convictions,” the director said.
Ogheneyero said the figures reflected diligent legal follow-through, reinforcing the rule of law and strengthening deterrence against criminal activities that undermined Nigeria’s economy.
“In addition, the dismantling of 283 illegal refineries under his watch dealt a decisive blow to crude oil theft and environmental degradation.
“These actions directly support President Tinubu’s determination to safeguard national resources, increase oil production, block revenue leakages, and restore investor confidence in the energy sector.
“By curbing vandalism and economic sabotage, the NSCDC under Audi has contributed meaningfully to the broader economic stabilisation efforts embedded in the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.
According to the director, CPTA also commends the NSCDC’s impressive financial accountability and revenue performance over the past five years under Audi’s leadership.
“A total of N4,476,237,986 was generated during the period under review and remitted directly into the Consolidated Revenue Fund, reflecting transparency, fiscal discipline, and responsible public service management.
“This aligns squarely with the administration’s emphasis on prudent resource management and institutional accountability,” he said.
Ogheneyero added that the regulation of Private Guard Companies (PGCs) also witnessed significant reforms and strengthened oversight under the CG’s administration.
“During his first tenure, 376 new companies were registered, while 893 are awaiting licences.
“A total of 3,869 licences were renewed, 443 non-compliant companies were sealed, and 241 were reopened after meeting regulatory standards.
“Additionally, 467 stakeholders’ meetings were held nationwide to enhance compliance and collaboration, while 15,157 guards were trained across the country to improve professionalism within the private security sector,” he said.
The director noted that these interventions had strengthened regulatory standards, enhanced job creation, and improved service delivery within Nigeria’s expanding security industry.
He also highlighted the establishment of the Female Special Squad, deployed to protect schools nationwide, as one of the most innovative and commendable achievements of Audi’s leadership.
He said that the squad successfully thwarted more than 48 attempted school kidnappings, providing reassurance to parents and strengthening confidence in public safety measures.
“This initiative not only reinforces school protection efforts but also advances gender inclusion within the security sector, giving women greater opportunities to contribute meaningfully to national security,” Ogheneyero said.
He added that the strengthening of the NSCDC Agro-Rangers Unit further underscored the Corps’ strategic relevance to national development.
“By protecting farmers, farmlands, and agro-related investments, the Corps has helped reduce threats to agricultural productivity, support rural livelihoods, and promote food security.
“These efforts align seamlessly with the President’s focus on agricultural revitalisation, economic diversification, and rural stability,” the director said.
Ogheneyero noted that the Renewed Hope Agenda was anchored on security enhancement, economic recovery, institutional efficiency, and inclusive governance.
He said the measurable achievements recorded during Audi’s first tenure—ranging from anti-vandalism operations and revenue generation to regulatory reforms, school protection, gender inclusion, and agricultural security—clearly resonated with these national priorities.(NAN)
