The APGA gubernatorial candidate in the coming governorship election in Anambra State Chief Willie Obiano has explained his absence from the last lap of the gubernatorial debates organized by Channels Television in collaboration with the League of Anambra Professionals (LAP) in Awka on Sunday.
In a carefully worded letter to the General Manager of tbe station, Mr. Kayode Akintemi, dated Friday, November 8, 2013, Chief Obiano expressed his deepest regrets for his inability to participate in the programme.
In the letter signed by the Head, Media & Communication, Willie Obiano Campaign Organisation, James Eze, the APGA flag-bearer said his absence was necessitated by the fact that he had “a pre-arranged commitment with a critical segment of Anambrarians outside of the Awka Capital Territory that will be taking place at the same time.”
Explaining further, Chief Obiano assured the station that he would be “available for any other engagement you might come up with before and after the election on November 16, 2013.”
It would be recalled that the APGA candidate had consistently appeared on previous TV debates since the full commencement of campaign by the 23 candidates running for the Amawbia Governor’s Lodge where he had given a good account of himself, reeling out facts and figures to buttress his many clearly articulated submissions.
Chief Obiano’s absence is believed to have robbed the debate of its expected fireworks and depth which the retired banker had effectively imbued previous debates with.
