Abuja, March 6, 2025 (NAN) The Working People United (WPU) a pro-government grassroots movement has pledged to strengthen engagement between government and ordinary Nigerians ahead of 2027 elections.

The WPU which is a coalition of workers, professionals, traders and artisans, committed to good governance and policy implementation, made the pledge at its unveiling ceremony in Abuja on Friday.

In his remarks, the National Coordinator, Mr Williams Akporeha, said that the WPU was established with a clear and patriotic mission.

He said that it is to galvanize and mobilize Nigerians across all sectors of the economy to actively participate in shaping the future of  the country.

According to him, they want to ensure the continuation of leadership that prioritizes national development, economic stability, and the welfare of the masses.

Akporeha said that the WPU therefore, stood as a platform to enlighten Nigerians on government  reforms, to promote constructive engagement between government and citizens, and to mobilize and advocate policies that would move the nation forward

“We must reject the politics of misinformation, division, and empty promises. Instead, we must embrace responsible citizenship, constructive dialogue, and collective national purpose.

“The strength of this movement lies in its people, the toiling working class, the mechanics in our workshops, the traders in our markets, the farmers in our rural communities, the drivers on our roads, the professionals in our offices, and the young Nigerians whose dreams will shape the future of this country.

“It is a movement of a national awakening among working people who understand that the future of Nigeria must be built through unity, hard work and proactive responsibility,” he said.

Akporeha, however, said  that the journey of reform is never easy as change often come with temporary challenges.

Akporeha said history had shown that nations that remain committed to difficult but necessary reforms, ultimately emerge stronger and more prosperous.

The national coordinator  pledged that the WPU movement would continue to educate, mobilize, and empower citizens with facts and with the vision of a better Nigeria.

He said that as a gathering and movement of like minds, the WPU not only believes in the importance of good governance but believes that there must be a dynamic visionary driver that sees beyond the ordinary to make things work for the interests of all.

“As a group committed to good governance and policy implementation, we have seen President Bola Tinubu put the machinery of making Nigeria a greater nation in motion, and therefore be encouraged to finish what destiny has put in his hands.

“I call on all Nigerians who believe in progress, stability, and national development to join this movement.

“Let us organize peacefully, mobilize responsibly, and work tirelessly to ensure that Nigeria continues on the path of reform, growth, and opportunity.

“Together, we will amplify the voice of the working people, together, we will defend the progress that has begun, we will build a stronger Nigeria for ourselves and for generations yet unborn,” he said.

The national coordinator said that the groups seeks to mobilize millions of Nigerians in support of President Bola Tinubu ahead of 2027 election.

Akporeha said that the aim was to ensure continuation of policies and programmes, designed to rebuild the economy and strengthen national institutions for a greater Nigeria.

He said that the group represents the collective voices of workers, artisans, traders, farmers, professionals, transporters, and all hardworking citizens who form the backbone of the economy.

“As we look ahead to 2027, this movement will play a critical role in ensuring that the progress currently being made is sustained and enhanced upon.

“Our goal is to mobilize millions of workers, artisans, traders, farmers, professionals and everyday Nigerians to support the continuation of policies and programmes designed to rebuild our economy and strengthen our national institutions for a greater Nigeria.

“Today marks a historic moment as we formally unveil the Working People United, a grassroots movement built on the strength, resilience, and aspirations of ordinary Nigerians,” he said. (NAN)
