Two men, Rasaq Abdullahi Aro and Ayinde Olakunle Sikiru on Tuesday appeared before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court for an alleged theft of N1,025,000 million.
Rasaq and Ayinde, whose residential addresses were not provided, are standing trial for a three-count charge of conspiracy, breach of peace and stealing.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Prosecutor, ASP Simon Njue told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Feb. 13, at about 2.00 p.m., at Akinsola Road, Lagos.
He alleged that the defendants and others at large conspired and conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by forcefully ejecting the properties of one Mr Dauda Ishola.
The prosecutor alleged that the defendants stole an Hisense LED television set valued N450,000, a Samsung phone A23 valued N350,000, a Rolex wrist watch valued N25,000, and a sum of N200,000, totaling N1,025,000, belonging to the complainant.
Njue said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 168(d), 287, and 411 of the Lagos State Criminal Law.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Section 168(d) prescribes two years imprisonment for breach of peace, Section 287 prescribes three years imprisonment for theft, and Section 411 prescribes two years imprisonment for conspiracy.
The Magistrate, Miss F.R Ogunkoyode granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 with two responsible sureties each in like sum.
She adjourned the case until Sept. 8 for mention. (NAN).
