An Ilorin Magistrates’ Court on Friday remanded a middle aged man, Aminullahi Abdullahi, at Oke-Kura Correction Centre, for alleged possession of a locally made pistol.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Aminat Shittu, subsequently adjourned the matter till Feb. 14 for further mention.
The Police charged the defendant with Criminal Conspiracy and Illegal Possession of Firearms which contravened section 3(1) of Robbery and Firearms special provision Act Cap R11 Law of Federation of Nigeria.
The Prosecutor, Insp Abdullahi Sanni, had told the court that the pistol was recovered from the defendant by the Nigeria Army Troop operation during their stop and search exercise on Jan. 11, at Oja Oba Area, Ilorin.
Sanni said that investigation conducted by the Police Anti Kidnapping Squad, Ilorin, revealed that the defendant allegedly used the pistol with his gang at large, to terrorize citizens of Oko-Olowo area and its environs.
He prayed the court not to consider the defendant for bail on the basis that his alleged offences were not ordinarily bailable. (NAN)
