An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Wednesday remanded a 39-year-old man, Chibuike Ajunwa, in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling a seven-year-old girl.

Chief Magistrate E. Kubeinje did not take the plea of Ajunwa, pending legal advice from the state Director of Public Prosecutions.

Kubeinje adjourned the case until April 17, for instance.

Earlier, the prosecutor, SP Kehinde Ajayi, told the court that Ajunwa, who lives in Igando, Lagos, defiled the seven-year-old girl.

The police said that the offense contravened the provisions of Section 27 and is punishable under Section 210(8) of the Child’s Right Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the defendant is liable to life imprisonment if found guilty of the offence.(NAN)
