A 32-year-old mechanic, Godwin Amos, who allegedly defiled a 10-year-girl, was on Friday remanded in a custodial centre by a Kaduna Magistrates’ Court.
The magistrate, Umar Ibrahim, refused to take the plea of the defendant. Ibrahim ordered that the defendant be kept behind bars, pending the receipt of legal advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPPs).
“The case file should be duplicated and be sent to the office of the DPPs for advice,” he said. Ibrahim adjourned the case until March 12 for mention. The defendant, who resides at Sabon Tasha in Kaduna, is being tried for allegedly having unlawful carnal knowledge of a minor.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, had told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan. 30, at Sabon Tasha in Kaduna. Leo said that the defendant lured the 10-year-old girl into his room and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her. He said that the defendant warned the girl not to tell anybody.
“The girl later told her mother what the defendant did to her.
“The mother reported the case to the police station which led to the arrest of the defendant,” Leo told the court.
He said that the offence violated Section 207 of the Penal Code, Law of Kaduna State. (NAN)
