Court remands teenager facing alleged defilement charge in Lagos

Ikeja, March 13, 2026 (NAN) An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Friday, ordered the remand in Kirikiri Correctional Centre of a gateman, Isreal Mendi, 19, facing trial over alleged defilement of his neighbor’s four-year-old daughter.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs M. F. Onamusi, declined to take the defendant’s plea and directed that he be kept in custody until April 9, pending advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

Mendi, who resides at No. 22, Folarin St., Badore, Ajah, Lagos, is facing trial for alleged defilement.

The Prosecutor, ASP Adegoke Ademigbuji, told the court that the offence was committed on Feb. 16 at the defendant’s residence.

Ademigbuji alleged that the defendant lured the child into his room under the pretext of sending her to her brother, but forcefully had carnal knowledge of  her.

He said that the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.(NAN)
