Calabar, May 6, 2024 (NAN) The Royal Ambassadors Family Enlightenment Foundation, (RAFEF), an NGO,  says it will provide legal support for 10 inmates at the Afokang Correctional Centre in Calabar.

The Chairman, Board of Trustees, Mr Jonathan Okwudiri, disclosed this in Calabar on Monday, at the inauguration of the state executive working committee of the foundation.

Okwudiri said that outside the legal aid services, the foundation would also undertake empowerment programmed for women and youths in the state.

The chairman said that RAFEF had provided legal supports for no fewer than 12 inmates at the Afikpo correctional centre

”When we visited Afikpo, we saw inmates who didn’t have representations, we also saw those who had no money to pay for their bail.

”We supported 12 of them, our legal team made applications on their behalf to see how we could assist them.

”We also did similar thing in Amawbia correctional centre in Awka where we selected 13 inmates.

”We shall do the same in Cross River, we will be supporting about 10 inmates at the Afokang correctional centre,” he said.

He said that the foundation had a system of getting positive results through negotiations, dialogue and consultations during conflicts.

Okwudiri also disclosed that the foundation had concluded plans to empower no fewer than 1,000 women and youths in each of the 18 local government areas of the state.

The chairman urged members of the foundation in the state to exude integrity, truth, trust, transparency and accountability in service delivery.

Also speaking, Dr Moses Agboreyo, RAFEF Coordinator in Cross River, pledged his commitment to achieving the foundation’s goals by mobilizing its members to work harder.

Agboreyo identified funding and mobilization as the major challenges facing the foundation in the state.(NAN)
