Lagos, Feb. 5, 2026 (NAN) Comptroller of the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Comptroller Gambo Aliyu, has paid a condolence visit to the family of Assistant Superintendent of Customs I (ASC I) Mustapha Akiyode, who was killed while on duty.
Aliyu led a delegation of senior officers of the command to the late officer’s residence at Ita Oshin, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
They were received by grieving relatives in a solemn atmosphere marked by prayers and reflection.
The visit was disclosed in a statement on Thursday by the command’s spokesperson, Chief Superintendent of Customs (CSC), Hussaini Abdullahi.
Aliyu said the visit was to personally identify with the deceased officer’s family and offer the support of the Nigeria Customs Service at a time of profound loss.
He conveyed the condolences of the Comptroller-General of Customs and the entire service to Akiyode’s widow, children and extended family.
The comptroller described the late officer as a dedicated public servant who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.
Aliyu reassured the family that the service would stand by them and remain committed to their welfare, adding that they would not be left alone to bear the burden of the tragedy.
He said investigations were ongoing to track down those responsible for the killing, assuring the family that justice would be pursued.
According to him, all necessary resources have been deployed to ensure that the perpetrators are identified, arrested and made to face the full weight of the law.
In an emotional moment, Aliyu offered prayers for the repose of Akiyode’s soul and for God’s strength for the family during the difficult period.
He said that although the loss was painful, the service took solace in the belief that the late officer died in honourable service to the nation.
Akiyode was killed in the early hours of Feb. 3, after he was ambushed by unidentified gunmen along the Ilara–Ijoun axis in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State.
He is survived by his wife and children. (NAN).
