The Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Lagos State Chapter, says the dividends of democracy should not be restricted to a privileged few but must reach every citizen regardless of location or social status.

The party stated this in its Democracy Day message signed by its Publicity Secretary, Mr Ayodele Kazeem, and made available to newsmen in Lagos on Friday.

Kazeem said inclusive governance remained the true essence of democracy, urging leaders to prioritize the welfare of all citizens.

“Under an APM-led administration, the dividends of democracy will not be restricted to a privileged few.

“They will reach every nook and cranny of Lagos State.

“No part of Lagos will be left behind in our pursuit of development, prosperity and social justice,” he said.

According to him, residents in both urban and rural communities deserve equal access to development and government services.

Kazeem said millions of Lagos residents were still waiting to enjoy the full benefits of the state’s vast resources and opportunities.

“Across communities, from urban centres to rural settlements, millions continue to yearn for a government that prioritizes their welfare.

“They want a government that places the interests of the people above all else.

“Democracy thrives when government remains accountable to the people,” Kazeem added.

He said Democracy Day offered an opportunity to reflect on whether governance was positively impacting ordinary citizens.

The spokesman commended residents for their resilience despite prevailing economic and social challenges.

“We salute the courage, patience and steadfastness of the good people of Lagos State.

“They continue to endure economic hardship, infrastructural challenges, insecurity and unemployment.

“Yet, they have maintained faith in the democratic process,” he said.

Kazeem reiterated the party’s commitment to providing an alternative model of governance anchored on inclusion and service delivery.

He said access to quality education, healthcare, transportation, security and economic opportunities should not depend on where people live.

“We remain committed to offering a credible, people-oriented and inclusive alternative.

“Our vision is to build a Lagos where every citizen has access to quality education and affordable healthcare.

“We also envision improved transportation, economic opportunities, security and social welfare for all residents,” he said.

The APM spokesman expressed confidence that Lagos residents would eventually embrace leadership that prioritizes equitable development across the state.

He urged residents to remain hopeful and participate actively  in strengthening democratic institutions.

“Together, we can build a Lagos that works for everyone.

“We call on  residents to continue supporting the ideals of good governance and accountability.

“We also encourage active participation in the democratic process,” he said. (NAN)
