Domestic staff, driver docked for allegedly stealing employer’s jewelry, cash

The police on Monday arraigned a domestic staff, Dorcas Mfom, and a driver David Utar, in a Life Camp Magistrates’ Court ,Abuja for allegedly stealing their employer’s jewelry worth 50,000 dollars..

The police charged Mfom 24, of Suleja, Niger , and Utar 34, of Karimo Abuja with criminal conspiracy and theft by servant.

However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecution Counsel, Charity Nwachukwu told the court that the complainant, Ms Ijeoma Mekamam of Mbora district, Abuja reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station on March 9.

Nwachukwu said that the complainant employed Mfom as a domestic worker and Utar as her driver but they criminally conspired and stole her jewelry worth 50,000 dollars , 10,000 dollars cash and 800 pounds .

The prosecutor said during Police investigation one gold necklace, gold bangles worth N15 million and N 1.7 million cash were recovered from the defendants and released to the complainant on bound.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 96 and 289 of the penal Code.

The Chief Magistrate, Musa Jobbo admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties in like sum.

He ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and provides reliable means of identification.

Jobbo adjourned the matter until June 2 for hearing.(NAN)
