Kaduna, Sept. 30, 2025 (NAN) A Kaduna Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, sentenced a 36-year-old driver, Usman Tanko, to two years imprisonment for stealing his employer’s car worth N4.5m.
Tanko, a resident of Ungwan Sarki, Kaduna, was sentenced after he pleaded guilty to the crime.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, sentenced him without an option of fine.
Emmanuel said the punishment would serve as a lesson to anybody, who would indulge in such an act.
He also ordered the police to return the recovered car back to the complainant, Rabiu Sanusi.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Sept. 25 at Malali, Kaduna.
According to Leo, the convict, who is a driver to the complainant, stole his Mercedes Benz C300 car valued at N4.5m when he was sent to buy fuel.
Leo told the court that the convict came back later without the car and claimed he was attacked by unknown gunmen and the car was stolen.
The complainant reported the matter at the police station and during investigation, the defendant was arrested after he confessed to have planned with his two friends at large to steal the car.
The offences contravene the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017. (NAN)
