A Jos Magistrates’ Court on Friday sentenced a 38-year old driver Haliyu Ibrahim to 18 months imprisonment for negligence.
The Magistrate, Mr Shawomi Bokkos, summarily tried and sentenced Ibrahim after he pleaded guilty to the crime.
The magistrate , however, gave the convict a fine of N30,000.
He also ordered the convict to pay compensation of N600,000 to the complainant.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Labaran Ahmed told the court that the case was reported on July 2, at the “C” Division Police Station by Yunisa Yahaya, the complaint.
The prosecutor said that the complainant gave the convict his motorcycle worth N1million to the convict for safe keeping.
The police said that on the same dau the motorcycle was given to the convict, he returned to tell the complainant that it had been stolen.
The offence, according to him, is punishable under the Plateau Penal Code Law. (NAN)
