Jos, Feb. 18, 2026 (NAN) A Magistrates’ Court in Jos on Wednesday sentenced a 20-year-old driver, Jibrin Abubakar, to two years imprisonment for assaulting his cousin.
The Magistrate, Mrs Irene Pati, sentenced the convict, who pleaded guilty to the charge.
Pati, however, gave the convict an option of N100, 000 fine and ordered him to pay N120,000 as compensation to the complainant.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Ijuptil Thiawur , told the court that the complainant, Maryam Abubakar with the help of a vigilante group, reported the case on Nov. 24, 2025, at the “C” Division Police Station.
Thiawur said that the convict went to the complainant’s house and attacked her with a wooden door frame causing injury to her left leg as confirmed by a medical report which showed that it was broken.
He said the offence contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law. (NAN)
