A 39-year-old man, Sadiq Aminu, has been sentenced by a Federal High Court in Lagos, to seven months in a correctional service for drug trafficking.
The defendant, who is unemployed, was arraigned on Dec. 3, on a one-count charge of drug trafficking before Justice Ayokunle Faji.
He had pleaded guilty to the charge.
The court had adjourned the case for review of facts and sentencing of the defendant.
When trial resumed, the prosecutor, Mr. Jeremiah Aernan, reviewed the facts of the case before the court and tendered some exhibits.
“The exhibits include statement of the defendant, drug analysis form, request for scientific aid form, a large envelope, remnant of the narcotics, among others.
He urged the court to convict and sentence the defendant based on his plea as well as evidences adduced by the prosecution.
The court accordingly admitted and marked the exhibits.
In his verdict, the court found the defendant guilty of the offence as charged and convicted him.
Faji sentenced the convict to a term of seven months imprisonment beginning from the date of his arrest.
In the charge, the prosecution said that the convict committed the offence on Sept. 21.He said that he was arrested at a place called Temu, in the Epe area of Lagos, for illegally dealing in cannabis, which weighed 350g.
According to prosecution, cannabis is listed in the NDLEA schedule as a banned narcotic similar to cocaine and heroin.
He added that trafficking in same contravenes the provisions of sections of 11(c) of the NDLEA Act Cap N30, Laws of the Federation 2004. (NAN).
