The National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN) has been selected by the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREE) as center for certification and training in solar PV installation course for the West African region.

This was contained in a letter signed by the Executive Director of ECREE, Mahama Kappia, in which he congratulated NAPTIN for attaining such an enviable status in renewable energy training.

Kappia said that he was looking forward to working with the institute in achieving optimum results in the area of capacity building in solar energy development within the ECOWAS sub-region.

The acting director general of NAPTIN, Ahmed Bolaji Nagode, in his response, welcomed the latest development and described it as a big step towards capturing the West African regional training market.

He also emphasized the importance of building human capacity in the power sector, especially in renewable energy which is the future of easy and affordable access to electricity in the West African Sub-region.

Bolaji further stressed that NAPTIN has developed its solar PV training curriculum and faculty through generous support rendered by the German International Development Agency (GIZ) under the Nigeria Energy support Programme (NESP).

The NAPTIN boss also acknowledged the opportunity for NAPTIN’s partnership with the United States International Development Agency (USAID) under the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Project (REEEP), which led to the offering of tuition scholarships by USAID to many Nigerians.
