The Police Command in Edo has concluded a two-day training for heads of structural formations and tactical team leaders on modern and contemporary policing.

The Edo Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, said at the end of the event in Benin on Wednesday that the workshop was in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police.

Adegboye said the training was intended to build the capacity of the police personnel for optimal performance.

“It’s the directive of the Inspector-General of Police that we should embark on training and retraining of our personnel, and the reason for this is capacity development.

“This two-day training will go a long way in impacting new values, new ideas, and new principles that will make our police officers better off.

“I hope it is going to have a long-term effect on their performance.

“It will improve their professionalism, their knowledge, their capacity development, their relations with members of the public, and more importantly, their becoming better police officers,” he said.

According to the police boss, arrangements have been put in place to ensure participants pass down lessons from the training to junior officers in their formations and teams.

One of the participants and the Area Commander, Ikpoba Hill, ACP Bawa Saleh, described the training as an eye-opener to modern policing.

He assured that the lessons derived from the workshop would be applied in the day-to-day operations in the area. (NAN)
