Eid-el-Fitr: LASTMA felicitates Muslims, tasks motorists on traffic regulation

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) on Tuesday felicitated Muslims across the state as they celebrated Eid-el-Fitri, which marks the successful completion of the Ramadan fast.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said this in a statement in Lagos.
The statement was signed by the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, LASTMA, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq.
Bakare-Oki also urged Muslims to imbibe and practice the virtues of kindness, love, tolerance, peace, self-denial, sacrifice, and good neighbourliness, as exemplified by the Holy Prophet Mohammad.
He said that LASTMA had begun vigorous public enlightenment campaigns at motor parks and garages for drivers to adhere strictly to all traffic regulations.
“Equally, passengers are urged to know their rights by cautioning drivers when on high speed or trying to manoeuvre in an attempt to drive against traffic, which is ‘one-way’.
“Speeding, wrongful overtaking, lane violation, road obstruction, disobeying traffic lights, overloading, and one-way driving should be avoided,” Bakare-Oki said.
He said that LASTMA officials would be at their lawful duty posts, managing and controlling traffic before, during, and after the Sallah celebrations across the state.
He said that patrol and recovery vehicles would be deployed to ensure the safety of motorists and timely rescue intervention across the state.
“The agency will not tolerate any avoidable infractions as a result of negligence capable of hindering the flow of vehicular movement on roads across the state,” he said.
Bakare-Oki enjoined members of the public, particularly the motoring public, to inform LASTMA of any road obstructions, gridlocks, crashes, or other emergency-related matters that required LASTMA’s urgent attention.
He said the agency could be reached via the following hotlines: 081005658600812992859708129928503 and 08174722227. (NAN)
