The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Oyo State Command, has deployed 1,797 personnel, including Special Marshals, to ensure free flow of traffic during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The state Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Dahunsi, disclosed this in a statement issued in Ibadan on Tuesday by the Sector Public Enlightenment Officer, Chief Route Commander Busayo Oluwasola.

The sector commander said that 24 patrol vehicles, two ambulances, and one heavy-duty tow truck would also be deployed for the exercise.

According to him, the command plans to carry out a 24-hour rescue operation throughout the celebration for Road Traffic Crash (RTC) victims.

He added that it would also clear gridlock-prone areas of traffic, while ensuring that vehicles were not overloaded with passengers or goods.

The FRSC boss further stated that the command would carry out intensive public enlightenment for fleet operators and at motor parks to educate motorists and passengers.

“Eid-el-Kabir is the second of two Islamic holidays celebrated worldwide each year.

“It honors the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son, Isma’il, as an act of obedience to Almighty Allah, the Creator of the world.

“The ongoing public enlightenment programmes will be intensified by the command to emphasize the need for motorists to drive safely.

“The command would not neglect any gridlock-prone areas in Oyo State, especially the Iwo Road Interchange, where we often experience heavy traffic flow.

“Motorists should shun overloading and speeding, and take other road users into consideration while on the wheel,” he said.

He urged motorists to obey traffic rules and regulations to reduce road crashes to the barest minimum in Oyo State. (NAN)
