Laborer docked for allegedly stealing N2.5m from building site

A 35-year-old laborer, Ibrahim Yusuf, was on Tuesday docked in a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Wuse, Abuja, for allegedly stealing N2.5 million from a building site.

Yusuf, who resides in Jabi  Village, Abuja, is charged with theft.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecution Counsel, Catherine Okafor , told  the court that the complainant, Abdulazeez Suleiman of Ayim Pius-Ayim Street, Wuye, Abuja, reported the matter at the Wuye Police Station on May 5.

She alleged that the defendant who was employed as a laborer on the complainant’s building site, stole N2.5 million cash and also removed wires in the house worth N1.5 million.

She added that during police investigation and interrogation, the defendant confessed to the crime, which contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Penal Code.

Magistrate Ekpeyong Inyang admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with one a surety in like sum.

She ordered that the surety must be a civil servant, with a means of identification from his/her work place, adding that the surety must live within the court jurisdiction.

The Magistrate directed the Registrar of the court to verify the surety’s address before the defendant is released.

She adjourned the matter until June 8, for hearing. (NAN)
