A 40-year-old engineer, Hakeem Anifowose, on Friday appeared before a Mapo Grade A Customary Court in Ibadan for allegedly obtaining N200,000 by false pretenses.
Anifowose pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.
The President of the court, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.
Akintayo ordered that each surety must provide evidence of tax payment to the Oyo State Government and a National Identification Number (NIN).
She thereafter adjourned the case until May 19 for hearing.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Ayodele Ayeni, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offences on April 23, 2025, at Mapo area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
Ayeni alleged that Anifowose obtained N200,000 from one Opeyemi Lamidi on the agreement that he would construct two grinding machines for her.
He said the defendant, however, failed to fulfil the agreement and converted the money to his personal use.
According to Ayeni, the offences contravene Sections 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000. (NAN)
