Sen. Ibrahim Abdullahi-Gobir (APC-Sokoto-East) says the Federal Government is trying its best to restore normalcy in all conflicts-ridden parts of the country.
Abdullahi-Gobir told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday that: ” The people are worried, the government is worried and the National Assembly is worried.
” Government will do everything humanly possible to restore normalcy, as well as adequately protect the lives and properties of all law abiding citizens.
” In this direction, there have been massive deployments of more personnel of the military, police, SSS and other security agencies across Nigeria.
”We are all seriously concerned and would leave no stone unturned to remedy the ugly security situation in the nation.”
Abdullahi-Gobir further urged Nigerians to be, ”their own police, just as they should be more vigilant, as well as report all suspicious movements to the security agencies.
” Community policing should also be well exercised in the country to deal with the menace of insecurity,” the lawmaker, appealed.
Abdullahi-Gobir, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, said a bill he sponsored to seek adequate compensation for victims of conflicts had passed first reading.
He said that the Bill, ” National Security and Victims Compensation Trust Fund,” seeks to redress the problems in the system.
” Victims are not adequately compensated, while even wives of affected security agents are often ejected.
” This bill when passed would seek to remedy this obnoxious trend and help in providing the required compensation to the victims of conflicts.” (NAN)
