In a bid to promote women’s health and wellness, MamaJazzYard Charity Foundation has provided free breast cancer screening for 207 women from underserved communities across the Federal Capital Territory.

The event, held at APIN Medical Laboratory and Diagnostics on Saturday in Abuja, aimed to raise awareness about the importance of early detection and prevention of breast cancer in commemoration of the World Women’s Day celebration.

Through mammograms, clinical breast examinations, and consultations, the event seeks to empower women with knowledge about breast health and encourage proactive healthcare practices.

Mrs. Folashade Samuel, the convener of the MamaJazzYard Charity Foundation, said that the exercise was part of the foundation’s initiative, which underscored the significance of community-driven efforts in combating breast cancer, a disease that affects millions of women worldwide.

Samuel said that by offering accessible screening services, particularly to those facing financial constraints or limited healthcare access, the foundation exemplifies its commitment to supporting women’s health initiatives.

“We believe that every woman deserves access to quality healthcare, regardless of her socioeconomic status.

“Our goal is to ensure that women have the resources and support they need to prioritize their health and well-being,” she stated.

According to APIN Medical Laboratory and Diagnostics Head of Radiology, Mrs. Bibian Yager, breast cancer remains a leading cause of mortality among women globally. Initiatives like those undertaken by the MamaJazzYard Charity Foundation play a crucial role in raising awareness, promoting early detection, and ultimately saving lives.

Yager said that through collaborative efforts and community outreach, organisations can work together to address healthcare disparities and improve outcomes for women facing breast cancer.

She further said: “We have decided to lend our voice, contribute our own quota, and put our resources into fighting this monster so that we can have cancer-free sisters and daughters, we can have mothers see their children grow, and we can have daughters live to become mothers.”

Speaking further, she said the breast screening was divided into two categories: ultrasound for women less than 35 years old and mammograms for older women.

“We are not just doing the screening; we started the month with an awareness campaign across our social media platform, where we use different means such as live videos, held online sessions, and discussions in groups and in firms just to educate women on how to improve their general well-being and the health of their breasts,” she said.

Meanwhile, Ms. Nkem Akpamgbo, senior radiographer at APIN Medical Lab, said that by fostering a supportive environment and promoting early detection, MamaJazzYard Charity Foundation continues to make a meaningful impact on the lives of women in the community.

NAN recalled that the scanning, which began around 8:20 am, received positive feedback from participants, many of whom expressed gratitude for the opportunity to receive free screenings and valuable medical advice. (NAN)
