Port Harcourt, April 11, 2026 (NAN) Gov. Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers has expressed grief over the passing of Sen. Barinada Mpigi, describing him as a man who lived a remarkable life.

Mpigi, until his death, represented Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

Fubara spoke at a Service of Songs held at the Missionary Anglican Church, Koroma, in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers.

“He lived a great life and will be remembered for the impactful work he did while on earth,” the governor said.

He described the late senator as a fighter whose contributions to society would remain enduring.

Fubara reflected on the inevitability of death, noting that it remained the ultimate end of human existence beyond human control.

“Death is the ultimate end. We cannot add or subtract from our lifespan; when it comes, it has come,” he said.

The governor urged the bereaved family to take solace in God, stressing that only divine comfort could fill the vacuum left by the deceased.

“Our gathering is not enough to console you. It is only God that can console you and fill that vacuum,” he added.

Fubara recalled that he had earlier sent a condolence message and paid a visit to the family following news of Mpigi’s death.

He expressed appreciation to members of the National Assembly and residents of Koroma who attended the service to honour the late lawmaker.

The governor prayed for the repose of Mpigi’s soul. (NAN)
