Mrs Florence Mutkut, the wife of General Officer Commanding (GOC), 8 Division of the Nigerian Army Sokoto, has called for equal parental care and treatment for boys and girls in the family.
Mutkutmade the call during an event to mark the International Boys Day celebration with theme:”’ Celebrate and Protect Boy Child ” organised by Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA) in Sokoto.
She underscored the importance of the day through which parents would reflect and ponder on the needs to support boys in their respected families in order to achieve their goals in life.
Mutkut, who is the chairperson of NAOWA in Sokoto state, urged families and communities to accord equal priority treatment to both boys and girls stressing that due to immense campaigns on girls empowerment boys should not be neglected.
” The dominance of men in leadership and decision making positions should be recognized through preparing boys for future challenges.
” Boys will be men, breadwinners, head of families, lawmakers, head of industries, governors and even presidents tomorrow,
”They should not be abandoned on proper parental guides in order to become productive persons in the future, ” Mutkut said.
She reiterated the importance of collective and shared responsibilities among family members which she described as pillar of building good society.
Mutkut led other NAOWA members, school teachers, barrack officials and pupils on road walk on the streets to sensitize the community the day and reawaken them for action.
In his lecture, Dr Abubakar Sifawa, from Shehu Shagari College of Education Sokoto, dwelled on the importance of boys development procedures, psychological needs and educational carrier guides.
Sifawa emphasized the need for collective supports among family members on training children should eases teachers activities.
