Governor Kefas Swears in Chief Judge and Customary Court President in Taraba State

JALINGO, Nigeria, January 12, 2024: Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has officially inaugurated Justice Filibus Joel Agya as the substantive Chief Judge of the state and Justice Alfred Yakubu as the President of the Customary Court of Appeal. These appointments, sanctioned by the National Judicial Council on December 6, 2023, were celebrated during the swearing-in ceremony.

Emphasising merit as the basis for their appointments, Governor Kefas administered the oath of office, urging the newly appointed heads of the judiciary to uphold justice with impartiality and diligence and contribute to the overall transformation of the judiciary.

Governor Kefas reiterated his administration’s commitment to the rule of law and pledged dedication to strengthening the judicial system in Taraba State.

In response, Justice Filibus Joel Agya, speaking on behalf of the President of the Customary Court of Appeal, expressed gratitude to the governor for the honour bestowed upon them. He pledged their commitment to carrying out their responsibilities with integrity and a profound sense of duty, highlighting their dedication to maintaining an independent judiciary free from interference.

Justice Agya disclosed that, in accordance with National Judicial Council guidelines, memoranda for the appointment of additional judges have been submitted. Additionally, he requested the creation of new zones in Bali, Karim Lamido, and Zing local government councils of the state.

The Chief Judge revealed plans to introduce ICT facilities at the Taraba State High Court, aiming to digitalize activities for improved efficiency and the adoption of best practices.
