Brig.- Gen. Oladele Arogundade the Commandant, Nigerian Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (NASEME) , says grassroots football development remains is key in discovering great players for the country.
Arogundade stated this at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Edition of the Commandant Football Tournament organised by NASEME, on Monday in Auchi, Edo.
Arogundade said that the tournament which is the third edition, was designed to provide a platform for the discovery of young players.
He emphasised the need to embrace grassroots football development.
According to him, a well-coordinated grassroots football programme will engender the development of sports in the country.
“The essence of the tournament is to foster unity within the host communities as to develop the physical and mental well-being of the youths
“Sport all over the world is a major activity that can unite citizens.This tournament is aimed at developing sport at the grassroots level.
“The idea is to unite the host communities and to develop the physical and mentally well-being of the youths,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Bull Fallow FC defeated the Afemai United FC 4-2 to emerge the winner of the tournament.
Highpoint of the closing ceremony was the presentation of trophy to the winner with a cash prize of N200, 000 and the unveiling of a new name from Bull Fallow FC to Blue bell FC.(NAN
