Group calls for probe of oil wells allocation, rains knocks on Danjuma
THE Niger Delta Indigenous Movement for Radical Change in Warri, Delta state has called on the Federal government to as a matter of urgent national importance to set up an enquiry into the allocation of oil wells to some Nigerians including the former Defence Minister, General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma.
In a press statement signed by its President, Nelly Emma; Secretary, John Sailor and Public Relations Officer, Stanley Mukoro the group said the enquiry would help unearth the circumstances under which many persons illegally acquired the nation’s oil wells, as many failed due process.
The group which also rained knocks on the former Defence Minister, over his comments on Chief Government Ekpemupolo (aka Tompolo) and other ‘freedom fighters’ of the Niger Delta, said it was uncalled for and should be retracted.
On Danjuma it noted that, “General Danjuma who has benefitted so much from the wealth of the Niger Delta region with his numerous oil blocs, yet he has been very insensitive to the suffering of the people of the region”.
The group condemned in strong terms the stoning of President Goodluck Jonathan in some states in the North during campaign rallies, the group wondered why Danjuma failed to condemn the actions.
The group cautioned all Nigerians to refrain from making highly inflammable comments about the unity of the country and freedom fighters of the Niger Delta like Chief Tompolo and others as, “We say enough is enough.”
The group has urged the Federal Government to appreciate the efforts of the Ijaw people to the nation by appointing one of them as the Group Managing Director of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
“We want the Petroleum Minister, Mrs. Alison-Madueke to continue to protect Niger Deltans, especially the Ijaws working in NNPC but being deprived in many ways”.
It said: “Ijaws working in NNPC are being threatened on a daily basis; they are being marginalised. The former President Olusegun Obasanjo appointed from the West a GMD of NNPC, just as the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua appointed a Northern as GMD of NNPC”, arguing, “President Jonathan should move now to appoint an Ijaw man as GMD, NNPC.”
