Residents of Dutse Baupma, a suburb of the Federal Capital City of Abuja, watched in disbelief last weekend as the wife of an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) set their house on fire while her husband and four children were still asleep.
An eyewitness, who is a neighbour of the Ubakas, told Saturday Newswatch that Mrs Ubaka (first name withheld) woke up around 5am, sprinkled petrol round their residence and set it on fire while her husband and their four children were still in bed.
According to a source, Mrs Ubaka decided to deal with her policeman-husband by destroying everything that belongs to him both living and non-living, after series of quarrel over his alleged escapades with women of different shapes and sizes.
The eyewitness added that ASP Ubaka and her four sons would have been consumed in the inferno save for providence, as they managed to escape death in their under-wears.
Neighbours, passersby and fire fighters from the Kubwa Division were said to have battled the fire for more than one hour before the house was saved from being completely razed down.
Mrs Ubaka is now being interrogated by detectives at the Kubwa Police Division over her dastardly action.
A woman, who claimed to be a neighbour of the embattled family, wondered why Mrs Ubaka would want to ruin her family over allegation of infidelity against her husband.
“It is sheer madness. At her age, I believe she is fifty something (years) and she wanted to kill her husband and four children over such allegation which we all know is the pastime of most married men nowadays. She obviously needs psychiatric evaluation; it is unbelievable.”
Contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the F.C.T Police Command, Altime Daniel, said she has heard about the incident but would not comment as the Kubwa Police Division, according to her, is already investigating the matter.
