ABUJA, December 27, 2023 – In response to the recent devastating attacks on several villages in Plateau State, Nigeria, resulting in tragic loss of lives in Bokkos and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has strongly condemned the acts as barbaric and inhumane.
Expressing condolences to the government, victims’ families, and the people of Plateau State, IGP Egbetokun declared “no peace” for the attackers and took decisive action to address the crisis.
The IGP has ordered the immediate deployment of additional manpower and resources to Plateau State, aiming to support local police and security forces in effectively managing the situation and ensuring the safety of residents in the affected areas.
Recognizing the necessity for a thorough investigation, the IGP has directed the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) and the counterpart in the Department of Force Intelligence to form a high-powered investigative team. This team is tasked with unraveling the circumstances surrounding the incident and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
In a statement released by the Police High Command, ‘Both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches are being employed by the police and other security agencies to address the recurrent crisis in the state.’ The IGP strongly urges warring groups, residents, and the entire state to embrace peace, renounce violence, and avoid unwarranted killings of innocent lives.
The IGP extends heartfelt condolences to the grieving families and loved ones of the deceased, reassuring the public that those responsible for the heinous acts will face the full force of the law and shall know no peace until justice is served.
ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of citizens, ensuring that every effort will be made to restore peace and security in the affected areas.
