27th December 2023 ABUJA – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the implementation of a new policy requiring directors with eight years or more of service to retire from the public sector, in accordance with the Federal Government Circular HSCF/SPSO/268/T3/2/37 issued on 27th July 2023.

The decision, approved by the Commission, will see four directors proceed on terminal leave. Among them are two who hold positions as Heads of Departments at the National Headquarters, while the other two are serving as Administrative Secretaries in State offices.

Notably, the policy exempts Clinical Officers in the medical cadre, as clarified in Circular MH. 7205/T/31 dated 7th September 2023.

The National Commissioner & Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, expressed the Commission’s best wishes to the affected directors as they retire from their respective roles.

The move is seen as Federal Government’s part of broader efforts to rejuvenate and introduce reforms within the public sector for efficient and dynamic governance.
